When to visit

The best times for birdwatching in São Tomé and Príncipe are June to August and December to January. These are the two dry seasons. The endemic bird species can be seen year-round, but it may be difficult to access the forests in southwestern São Tomé during the rainy season. Weather & Climate

São Tomé and Príncipe have a tropical climate that is warm, humid, and stable year-round. Temperatures usually range from 73°F to 90°F (23°C to 32°C). The islands are near the equator, so the weather stays warm and humid throughout the year.

However, there are distinct wet and dry seasons. The wet season is from October to May, with the most rain falling between March and May. Heavy rains and thunderstorms are common during this period, especially in the mountains.

The dry season runs from June to September. This is the best time to visit for drier, more comfortable weather and outdoor activities.

Trade winds help moderate the heat, keeping coastal areas a bit cooler than inland. While temperatures are consistently warm, considering the wet and dry seasons can make for a more enjoyable visit.
