Since 2016, Wild Birding has specialised in designing truly personalised birding and wildlife holidays across Africa and beyond. It’s what we do best. Whether you’re looking for luxurious lodges, a more adventurous field-based trip, a family-friendly escape, or a photography-focused expedition, every tour is tailored to match your interests and pace.
Our trips are designed for all levels – from experienced birders searching for endemics and lifers, to those just starting out, or travellers simply wanting to combine excellent birding with Africa’s iconic wildlife. Every itinerary is created from the ground up and led by trusted local naturalists who know their regions intimately. Wherever you are on your birding journey, we help you make the most of it.
Wild Birding began in Kenya, and Africa has remained at the heart of our story ever since. We don’t just operate here – we love it. The birds, the landscapes, and the people make this one of the most inspiring places on earth to explore.
Over the years, we have built trusted relationships with outstanding local guides, conservation partners, and some of the most remarkable lodges and camps across the continent. These connections mean we know exactly where to send you for the best birding at the right time of year. They allow us to offer something rare: excellent value at exceptional properties through long-standing partnerships developed specifically for our guests.
From remote mountain forests to vast savannas rich with wildlife, every itinerary is thoughtfully designed to match your pace, style, and wishlist, guided by a team that genuinely cares about the places we share.
As we approach our tenth anniversary this year, it feels like a meaningful moment to reflect on the journey so far.
Wild Birding was founded in 2016 with a simple idea: to create carefully designed birding and wildlife holidays led by exceptional local guides and rooted in a genuine love for the places we explore. What began as a small specialist operation focused largely on Kenya has gradually grown into a network of thoughtfully crafted tours across Africa and beyond.
Over the past decade, we have travelled through forests, wetlands, mountains, and savannas across the continent, welcoming guests from around the world who share a curiosity for wildlife and the natural world.
While the destinations have expanded, the philosophy remains exactly the same — small groups, expert guiding, and itineraries designed with care, flexibility, and a deep respect for the landscapes and wildlife we visit.
The past year has been one of our busiest and most exciting yet.
In the last twelve months alone, Wild Birding tours have operated across 11 African countries, exploring everything from Uganda’s papyrus wetlands and Tanzania’s ancient mountain forests to the remote islands of São Tomé and Príncipe.
Over the course of the year, we ran 34 tours, welcoming more than 80 guests and spending hundreds of days in the field alongside some of Africa’s most knowledgeable bird guides.
Our guests experienced everything from specialist birding expeditions targeting rare species to mixed wildlife and birding safaris, where travellers discovered just how fascinating Africa’s birdlife can be alongside its iconic mammals.
A particularly proud moment came when Wild Birding was featured in the United Kingdom’s The Telegraph, highlighting the growing interest in specialist birding and wildlife travel across Africa.
For a company that began with a passion for birds and wild places, it has been an inspiring year — and one that makes us excited for what lies ahead.
With deep, on-the-ground expertise, we handpick places to stay that keep you close to the wild — from back-to-basics bush camping to luxury tented camps under star-filled skies. Every choice balances comfort, setting, and immersion in nature.
Our tours are led by some of the best bird guides in the world: passionate, experienced, and based in-country. Their local knowledge makes all the difference in the field.
No two Wild Birding trips are the same. Every itinerary is carefully designed around your interests, pace, and wishlist — whether you are searching for specific species, planning a photography expedition, or combining birding with a classic wildlife safari. From short specialist trips to multi-week family safaris across entire regions, we tailor every detail so you can experience the best of each destination.
We believe every trip should give back. That’s why we partner with trusted local guides, support community-owned lodges, and keep our group sizes small. We can also carbon score your trip and offer offsetting through Sustainable Travel.
All our tours contribute to citizen science through eBird. We log daily checklists and provide each guest with a detailed trip report. You can explore our sightings on our Wild Birding eBird profile.
